ACAL and AI Lab Sweep the ISPD 2007 Student Contest
EECS students Jarrod Roy, from the Advanced Computer
Architecture
Lab, and Michael Moffitt, from the Artificial Intelligence Lab,
were honored on Tuesday, March 20, at the Association for Computing
Machinery International Symposium on Physical Design in
Austin, Texas,
for their winning entries in the inaugural Global Routing Contest. The
event attracted 17 teams from US, Taiwan and China, and pitted
university
teams against industry contestants, including those from Cadence
Berkeley Laboratories. Roy's router FGR took first
place in the 2D category and ranked third in the 3D category. Moffitt's
router MaizeRoute took first place in the 3D category and was
second in the 2D category. The remaining two prizes were awarded to
teams from UT Austin and Taiwan.
The Symposium was organized by IBM Austin Research Laboratory and sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Design Automation, IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation, and the Semiconductor Research Corporation.
