Student Chapter of ASEE Honors Outstanding Student Instructors

Michigan Engineering's student chapter of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) held its annual Outstanding Student Instructor Awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. The event included a keynote address given by this year’s Outstanding Professor of the Year, Aileen Huang-Saad, a lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Her talk described the development and design of a new course, BiomedE 599: Graduate BME Design Team, which allows students to experience the innovation value chain in the classroom. Huang-Saad was selected as Outstanding Professor of the Year based on the nominations

of several students who experienced this class and praised her for developing a highly collaborative learning environment that provided an “essential connection between clinical medicine and biomedical engineering design.”

The CoE student chapter of ASEE also recognized exceptional graduate student instructors throughout the College of Engineering. Award winners were selected for their extraordinary ability and creativity as teachers, thorough understanding of their instructional field, and dedication to the welfare of their students. Honored with Outstanding Student Instructor Awards were: Gisuk Hwang (ME), Andrew Laskowski (ChE), Mo Li (CEE), Joonki Noh (EECS), and Kristen Tebo (MSE).  Several GSIs also received Honorable Mention recognition: Dustin Chang (ChE), Jason Huang (ChE), Arvind Jayaraman (EECS), Michael Lau (IOE), Jongwon Lee (CEE), and Johnny C.-Y. Tsai (ME).
