ScholarPOWER Initiatives

ScholarPOWER Overview

ScholarPOWER is the overarching concept for MEPO's retention initiatives. ScholarPOWER is a comprehensive co-curricular program comprised of educational support services for students providing training for academic, personal and professional development.

The Academic Awards Banquet is the annual tribute to those students who have earned exemplary academic standing or have shown considerably improved performance.

ScholarPOWER Deliverables

ScholarPOWER F.O.R.U.M.S.

Forum

A comprehensive interactive workshop series encompassing academic, personal and professional development utilizing modern ideals and methods. The workshops are facilitated by corporate professionals, motivational speakers and student leaders.  Students are exposed to various topics that are critical to their success at the University of Michigan. The delivery method is referred to as "edutainment" (a learning model that combines education and entertainment to not only inform, but to engage). The format is based on interactive dialogue and is similar to popular television talk shows. The forum topics address the needs, issues, concerns, and / or challenges of 1st and 2nd year students.

MEPO Mentoring Program

Creating a sense of community by strengthening the connection between first-year and upper-class students and to provide leadership training and financial assistance for upper-class students.

Ford Summer Engineering Institute (SEI)

The Ford Summer Engineering Institute provides incoming summer and first-year academic preparation and ongoing support.

Michigan Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (M-STEM) Academy

The M-STEM Academy Partnership provides intensive academic and financial support for STEM students through the second year.

Pathways to Success - Learning Communities

learning communities

The Learning Community builds upon the enrichment activities of the Ford Summer Engineering Institute by maintaining the communal networks of the college learning experience through monthly forums related to academic, personal, and professional development during the fall and winter semesters.

Academic Development Conference

closing cermony

The conference consists of parent workshops focusing on the changing role of the parent, and other insights related to academic success. Student workshops will address methods to enhance academic, personal, and professional development.
