Alan J. Steremberg is president and co-founder of Weather Underground, Inc., one of the largest commercial web-based weather services in the world. Based in Ann Arbor, the service provides free, real-time weather information for over 60,000 U.S. and international cities, including: severe weather warnings and advisories, international conditions, marine weather and detailed local forecasts. Founded in 1995, the service was an offshoot of the University of Michigan's popular internet weather database.

Mr. Steremberg's innovative approach to computer programming in the early 1990s was responsible for the creation of Blue Skies - one of the first models of interactive graphics on the internet that gave users immediate access to the latest weather information. The model included such features as interactive weather maps, animations, ozone imagery and air pollution data. Written by Mr. Steremberg, the weather display system was made possible by grants from the National Science Foundation and the Division of Education and Human Resources.

A third-generation U-M graduate and the first in his family to study engineering, Mr. Steremberg started Student Mac Programmers, a student organization to gather talented students within the campus community. He later moved on to work at Apple Computer and then a small 3D internet start-up in Seattle.

Mr. Steremberg earned a bachelor of science degree in computer engineering from the University of Michigan. Also, he earned a master of science degree in human computer interaction from Stanford University.
