Overseas Internships
Students seeking internships abroad can search for positions independently or work with international placement organizations. A good starting point for independent searches is the HireME system, managed by the Engineering Career Resource Center. Through HireME, overseas employers can post internship announcements and students can search for opportunities by country. Students can also contact HireME employers who are offering full-time positions to inquire about internship possibilities.
In contrast to independent searches, work abroad organizations place students in pre-arranged technical or business internships. The pay for these internships is usually enough to cover your living expenses and the costs of getting to your host country. Application deadlines are early (some as early as a year in advance) for placement during subsequent terms.
If you think you may be interested in an Internship Abroad, it is best to get involved early. Organizations such as AIESEC and IAESTE have student offices on campus and depend on their members to create job opportunities world-wide. Obtaining a placement through these organizations is highly competitive, but contributing members are given first priority. Consider joining one of these organizations right away to give yourself an edge in obtaining placement later.
HireME is the ECRC's job source. Overseas employers can post internship announcements here.
