Overview: The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is one of the region's premier technological institutions and is comprised of the Schools of Engineering, Science, Business and Management, Humanities, and Social Science. Approximately 8,500 students attend HKUST. Campus includes academic facilities as well as student housing, faculty apartments, athletic and recreational facilities, bookstores, and restaurants.

The School of Engineering includes the Departments of Chemical Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Engineering Management. HKUST promotes interdisciplinary research by establishing research units that operate across school and department lines. Research institutes and centers focus on such areas as Advanced Manufacturing, Advanced Materials, Asian Financial Markets, Biotechnology, Economic Development, Information Technology, Infrastructure Development, Micro Systems, and Software Engineering.

Dates: The academic year at HKUST includes two semesters and two sessions. The spring and fall semesters each contain 14 weeks of scheduled classes. Immediately following the end of the 14th week, there is a short study break followed by a week devoted to examinations.

Winter session (1 month in January) is for special academic programs, research symposia, and other activities.

Language: English

Eligibility: UM Engineering students with at least 2 semesters at UM. Transfer students must have completed at least 1 semester at UM. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75.

Winter Term: October 1, 2008

Orientation: Admitted students are expected to attend a mandatory orientation session.
