Photo & Video Contest Info

2009 Study Abroad Photo & Video Blog Contests The College of Engineering wants to showcase your overseas experience and encourage other engineering students to follow in your footsteps!

Eligibility
Photo & Video Blog contests will be held each academic year and are open to CoE students who went abroad to study, work, conduct research or volunteer in an organized program. Participants in UM-sponsored programs or independent, non-UM programs are eligible to submit photos. Please note that vacations abroad do not qualify.

Photo Contest Categories & Guidelines

Wolverines Abroad:
Photographs submitted in this category should feature UM Engineering students abroad. At least one student (you or others) must be in the photograph to qualify. Photos including UM clothing or other memorabilia are always encouraged!

Host Country/Culture:
Photographs submitted in this category should capture the culture, landscape, architecture and/or people of your host country.

Guidelines:

  • Students can submit up to 2 photographs for each category.
  • Please keep in mind that photograph submissions will be viewable by students, faculty, staff, parents, prospective students and others outside of the UM community. Photos should be tasteful and should not include alcohol or tobacco use.
  • Please submit photos in high quality/resolution.

Video Blog Contest Categories & Guidelines

The video blog contest will not be defined by specific categories. However, below are a few ideas for the focus of a video blog entry to get you started:

  • A Day in the Life / A Day in My Life While in...
  • Funny Story - Lesson Learned
  • People I've Met While In ...
  • 5 Things I Have Learned About...

Guidelines:

  • Students can submit up to 3 video blog entries.
  • Videos should be no more than 3 minutes in length (including the intro, if you choose to create one).
  • At least one UM student must appear in the video. Students are encouraged to film the entire video or at least a portion of the video "webcam style" (talking directly to the camera).
  • Edit your video! A little editing is easy with the appropriate software (iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Windows Movie Maker) and can greatly increase the quality of your video. Video editing software is available to CoE students for free in the Duderstadt Center.
  • Please keep in mind that entries will be viewable by students, faculty, staff, parents, prospective students and others outside of the UM community. Video blogs should be tasteful and should not include alcohol or tobacco use.
  • Videos containing copyrighted music will not be accepted.

Applications and Deadline
The deadline for submissions is October 30, 2009. Instructions for submitting photos and video blogs will be provided prior to the deadline. Student winners will be notified by email and will receive gift certificates and prizes from local businesses. Winning photographs will be displayed throughout the CoE and may also be used for IPE marketing materials, web pages, etc. Good luck!
