Frequently Asked Questions

1) When can I apply to the Program in Global Engineering?

Applications to the Program in Global Engineering will be accepted until December 3, 2007.  After December 2007, the Program in Global Engineering will no longer accept new applicants.  The College of Engineering encourages interested students to consider declaring the International Minor for Engineers that will be available beginning in Fall 2008.

To apply to the Program in Global Engineering (prior to the December 2007 deadline) a student must have completed at least one term in the University of Michigan College of Engineering and have an overall GPA of 3.0.

2) Can I use AP credit to fulfill the program requirements?

AP credits can be used to fulfill the language requirements, but they cannot be used to fulfill other program requirements.

3) Can I use transfer credits to fulfill the program requirements?

Transfer credits may be used if the course in question was taken overseas. Please make an appointment with the IPE advisor to have overseas transfer credit evaluated.

4) When should I start planning my overseas experience?

You should stop by the IPE Office to get information about overseas opportunities right away! It is best to start narrowing down your program options and begin the application process at least 1 year in advance

5) How can I fulfill the language requirement aside from taking 2 semesters during the regular academic year?

Check out the UM's Summer Language Institute for an intensive language program. Another great way to complete the language requirement is by taking your language classes overseas. Consult the IPE advisor for other options.
