Program Requirements
Participants in the Program in Global Engineering are required to complete the following:
- Language Study (8 credit hours)
- Regional Focus (8 credit hours, 300-level or higher)
- International Free Electives (6 credit hours)
- Cross-Cultural Training
- Overseas Experience
Social science, humanities, free electives and approved technical courses provide students with an in-depth global education while fulfilling engineering requirements. Students can choose from a wide range of courses both at UM and abroad at one of the College's partner universities.
Advanced placement (or credit from a placement exam) can be applied to the language study requirement. Course selections must be approved by the PGE program advisor.
"The reason I like learning a new language is because it's kind of like solving a puzzle. Engineers love putting pieces together to get the right answer and learning a foreign language is similar. You have to learn different words and different meanings and piece everything together to form a sentence. Once you have every piece of the puzzle, it all makes sense." -UM Student '05
