Program in Global Engineering

What is the Program in Global Engineering?

The Program in Global Engineering was designed to integrate courses dedicated to a specific region, language classes, and other international topics with a required overseas experience (study abroad, internship abroad) and intercultural training. Students who complete the program requirements receive written acknowledgement of participation in the Program in Global Engineering on all official University of Michigan transcripts.

What are the benefits of the Program in Global Engineering?

In addition to traditional engineering training, PGE students:

  • Gain cross-cultural communication skills
  • Consider the impact of American cultural values and business practices in other countries
  • Understand the people, culture, practices of a specific country of interest, chosen by the participant

Application Information

Applications to the Program in Global Engineering will be accepted until December 3, 2007.  After December 2007, the Program in Global Engineering will no longer accept new applicants.  The College of Engineering encourages interested students to consider declaring the International Minor for Engineers that will be available in Fall 2008.

To apply to the Program in Global Engineering (prior to the December 2007 deadline) a student must have completed at least one term in the University of Michigan College of Engineering and have an overall GPA of 3.0.

Be certain to include:

  • Completed application form (obtained from IPE office in 245 Chrysler Center)
  • A brief statement of purpose (one-page maximum) articulating your interests in global engineering.
  • A copy of your unofficial transcript.
