IPE Policies

The International Programs in Engineering (IPE) office is here to help students locate study abroad programs that meet their educational needs. Our staff members will also guide students through the application process and provide assistance with pre-departure planning and course evaluations.

In particular, our office provides the following services:
  1. Shares information about CoE study abroad programs and provide advice for locating other program providers.
  2. Works with students to assess their study abroad goals and compare program options.
  3. Guides students through the application process.
  4. Provides general information about financial aid and study abroad scholarships.
  5. Advises students about our international academic programs: the Engineering Global Leadership Honors Program (EGL) and the Program in Global Engineering (PGE).
  6. Evaluates overseas courses and work with CoE faculty to determine engineering course equivalencies for students participating in a UM-sponsored study abroad program.
  7. Authorizes credit transfer from overseas institutions.
  8. Conducts pre-departure and re-entry workshops.
Our office does NOT provide the following:
  1. Assistance in selecting overseas housing (this is handled by the host institution).
  2. Financial aid counseling for individual student accounts or financial aid packages.
  3. Visa application processing (requirements vary by host institution and country).
