Graduate Students

Graduate exchange students who are nominated by their home institutions to be exchange students at UM must apply for their program as if they were regular degree-seeking students. This means that all pertinent TOEFL and GRE requirements must be met by the student. Information about admissions requirements depend upon a student's program.

Any hard copy supporting documentation for the application should be forwarded by the responsible study abroad officer at the home institution, together with a list of the students who are nominated to attend the University of Michigan, to :

Graduate students who are accepted to a graduate program will be notified in writing by the receiving department where they have been recommended for admission. Thereafter, the Rackham School of Graduate Studies or the College of Engineering (depending upon the program) will make the final official offer of admission to the University after they have determined the student has adequate funding to cover his/her stay.

Tuition fellowships are not guaranteed with a department's acceptance of a student. Distribution of tuition fellowships will be determined by the College of Engineering Associate Dean of Graduate Education after all departments have determined the admission status of each of the nominated exchange student applicants. Once a student has been earmarked for a tuition fellowship, an official letter will be sent from the Associate Dean of Graduate Education to the student.
