How do I become an exchange student?

In order to become a College of Engineering exchange student, you meet the following criteria:

  • Your home institution must have signed a bilateral agreement with the UM College of Engineering or must be a member of the Global Engineering Education Exchange (GE3).
Click here for a list of CoE partner institutions
  • You must apply to participate in the exchange program through your home institution or GE3.
  • If you are from a bilateral partner institution, the international office at your home institution must select and nominate you to become an exchange student at the College of Engineering.
  • Once nominated, your admission materials must be sent to the Office of International Programs in Enginnering.  Our office will forward your application to the appropriate engineering department for an admission decision.
  • If the department approves your admission, the College of Engineering will determine if you will receive a fellowship to cover the cost of tuition, for a specified number of semesters.

If your home institution is not a CoE partner or member for the GE3, you might be able to attend UM for 1-2 semesters as a guest student at your own costs.

If you have already been accepted as a CoE exchange student, congratulations!  Please review our information for Incoming International Students and contact the IPE office with any questions.
