Response Systems at CAEN
Student response systems, also known as "Clickers", allow an instructor to query the entire class at once and test comprehension of lecture concepts. Results of the query are available immediately to the instructor, and can be optionally shared with the entire class via the projector.
The use of clickers can provide several advantages to both the instructor and students. The instructor can adjust their lecture on the spot to best match student learning, and students can answer posted questions anonymously and not have to risk appearing incorrect in front of their peers. The use of clickers may also help students focus on lecture content by engaging them in a two-way interaction as opposed to the one-way format of a traditional lecture.
There are some disadvantages to clickers. Students are generally asked to purchase the clicker, and need to remember to bring it to class. The instructor must install and become familiar with the software used to initiate queries and view results. This software has some rough edges in terms of usability, and only works with a limited set of presentation software and OS versions.
Currently, CAEN is piloting support of the Qwizdom response system, which uses radio frequency (RF) remotes and receivers. Browse this site for more information and support documents on the Qwizdom software and remotes.
