SURE Program Details
Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering (SURE)
Summer Undergraduate Research in Engineering (SURE) offers summer research internships to outstanding undergraduate students who have entered or completed their junior year by the time of their internship. The program is open to both current undergraduate College of Engineering students as well as students from other institutions. These students have the opportunity to conduct 10-12 weeks of full-time summer research with some of the country’s leading faculty in a wide range of engineering disciplines. The program allows selected undergraduate students to assess their interests and potential in pursuing research at the PhD level in graduate school. All participants must apply online through the SURE website.
Accepted applicants from the University of Michgian receive a stipend of $4,200 and guidance by a faculty advisor in a College of Engineering research facility. The departments have the discretion to increase the award amount.
Selected students from other campuses receive a $4,000 stipend along with summer housing and a travel allowance. Students from external insitutions attend the full program in collaboration with our Rackham Graduate School Summer Research Opportunity Program.
All SURE students attend regular meetings and seminars offered by the College of Engineering. The summer program ends with the production of a short student video on their summer research project and/or experience. More than 60 of these student videos are now available from the 2009 program.
The SURE 2010 application will be available late November 2009. Please visit the website for completing your application form.
