Wensheng Huang
Aerospace Engineering

My name is Wensheng Huang, I also go by David. I am a second year Ph.D. student in aerospace engineering, gas dynamics sub-discipline. I earned my Bachelor in Mechanical/Nuclear Engineering at UC Berkeley in 2006. Then immediately came to Michigan for research. I am currently doing very cool works on electric propulsion under Prof. Alec D. Gallimore.
When I visited Michigan back in 2006, two things appealed to me the most. It was the friendliness of the faculty members and the level of exciting research I found. I met six or seven faculty members on that day and spoke to four of them. They were all very positive when listening to my ideas and telling me of the opportunities available at Michigan. In particular, Prof. Bram van Leer did a great job leading the whole event and giving us a personal tour of the campus. I was also fascinated by the state-of-the-art propulsion research going on at Prof. Gallimore's laboratory at that time. The lab's graduate students (who are now my labmates) spoke very openly with me about the facilities and plasma research. I knew then that U. of M. was the right place for me regardless of how cold it is compared to California. Did I mention how cool electric propulsion research is?.
