Monisha Brown
Environmental Engineering

Monisha Brown is a second-year PhD student in Environmental Engineering focusing on wastewater treatment. She received her undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. She currently works with Dr. Lutgarde Raskin on biological wastewater treatment in zero-exchange recirculating shrimp aquaculture systems. Monisha visited campus for the PREVIEW program during the Fall 2005 term of her senior year before ultimately enrolling in the PhD program at the University of Michigan in September 2006.
"After attending the PREVIEW program, Michigan became the top school on my graduate school shortlist. PREVIEW gave me an opportunity to learn about the research opportunities in my department and to talk with current students within my department; this helped me decide on the research labs that I wanted to work in. I was also able to network with current graduate students in other departments and with other prospective students. This was an important experience for me because I wanted to attend a university that had a support system for graduate students, and attending PREVIEW allowed me to get first-hand experience with that system, which influenced my decision to choose Michigan."
