Diane Peters
Mechanical Engineering

Diane Peters is a second-year PhD student in Mechanical Engineering. She received her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and her master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She works with Drs. Papalambros and Ulsoy on the optimal design of coupled systems - systems in which the mechanical object and its controller affect each other. Diane visited campus in the spring of 2006.
Visiting the University of Michigan really helped in making the decision to attend. Having the chance to meet and talk with faculty showed me that there were a number of exciting opportunities in my areas of interest, and people I'd enjoy learning from. Getting a chance to meet current and prospective students was also useful, since I'd be classmates and labmates with some of them. In the end, I could really see myself fitting in well at Michigan, and it solidified its place at the top of my list.
