Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What should I do about travel arrangements?
Once you have been invited and register online you will receive all of the necessary travel information through the web. This includes the travel agency you can contact to book your free flight, the hotel information where we have booked your rooms, and the shuttle service we have reserved for you to get from the Detroit Metro airport to the University of Michigan campus.
What about the hotel arrangements?
Once you have registered to attend the Engineering Departmental Visits you do not need to worry about hotel arrangements. We will take care of all room arrangements.
Can I attend the Engineering Departmental Visitations program if I am a prospective student?
Unfortunately not, the program is only for students who have officially applied for the Fall 2008 term. The College of Engineering, in conjunction with Rackham Graduate School, hosts annual events including the Engineering Graduate Symposium for all prospective graduate engineering students.
Are Engineering Departmental Visitations really fully funded?
Yes, if you are admitted (or receiving serious consideration for admission) to an engineering graduate degree program for the Fall 2008 term at the University of Michigan then you are eligible to receive an invitation. Invitations are determined by faculty members in each department. All airfare, transportation, hotel, on-campus meals, and miscellaneous fees are included. Outside of personal spending, students do not have to incur any out-of-pockets expenses.
What should I bring with me?
We suggest planning accordingly and when packing keep the following in mind:
- The weather could be cold so be sure to check the latest forecast and brings hats, gloves, and a heavy coat, if necessary.
- Business attire is most appropriate for the Saturday evening banquet.
- Don't forget about casual wear for social events.
- Comfortable shoes are important when walking around campus.
