Progress and Promise: 150th Anniversary Campaign 2000 - 2008

WE LIVE IN A TIME being shaped increasingly by science and technology. Yet as advanced as our world may seem, we still face problems and challenges known to humankind for generations.

  • How to support and enhance education at all levels.
  • How to predict and minimize the impact of natural disasters.
  • How to banish disease, lessen disabilities and save lives.
  • How to preserve and protect the earth's resources.
  • How to improve economic opportunity for all peoples and nations.

Today, for the first time, solutions to these and other problems are within our grasp. Many of them lie in the richly productive areas of collaboration between the engineering disciplines and science, medicine, business, education, law, policy and public health.

For more than 150 years,Michigan Engineers have made significant contributions to the world, and the impact of their activities has increased dramatically over the past several decades. We have launched generations of talented professionals, advanced theory and knowledge, laid the groundwork for future achievement and quickened the pace of discovery.

Given its capacity for outstanding scholarship, wide-ranging exploration and impact on a world scale,Michigan Engineering has enormous potential for overcoming many problems facing us in the 21st century. However, achieving that potential will require a significant investment, particularly given that state support now represents 7% of the College's operating budget. That investment must include funds for academic programs, endowed professorships, undergraduate scholarships, facilities and discretionary spending that will enable the College to respond to pressing needs as they arise.
