New technologies are developed regularly at the University of Michigan, which is ranked #2 in the country in R&D spending and #1 among public institutions. Now two of its most prestigious academic units, the Michigan College of Engineering and the Ross School of Business, have teamed up to offer a Master's degree in Entrepreneurship, targeted at training aspiring entrepreneurs to develop ideas into businesses. This joint program leverages existing strengths in both institutions. The Zell Lurie Institute in the Ross School of Business is ranked by Entrepreneur Magazine as the #3 business school entrepreneurship program in the country, with its array of coursework, business plan competitions and venture fund opportunities. The Center for Entrepreneurship has developed a strong entrepreneurial presence in the College of Engineering, over the past three years attracting over 13,000 U-M students and 400 alumni to its co-curricular and academic programs. We are seeking a high-energy Program Officer who will manage the launch and progression of the new Master of Entrepreneurship Degree Program.
The Program Officer will manage the launch and progression to steady state of the new Master of Entrepreneurship Degree Program. This individual will have full responsibility for handling the following activities for this new program: marketing, recruiting students, handling admissions, on-boarding new students, degree audit, and the many administrative details associated with running the new program. Specific responsibilities include monitoring the external market in combination with emerging resources within the University to identify opportunities for the program; working collaboratively with the College of Engineering and the Ross School of Business to coordinate and implement effective marketing and recruiting strategies, admissions decisions, and student services; providing cultural leadership to ensure a collegial, high-service, responsive environment; and monitoring the operating budget. The Program Officer will interact extensively with students, prospective students, corporate sponsors, faculty, and other staff members to ensure smooth running of the program.
Specific duties include: - Promote the program by offering information sessions, designing and distributing promotional materials, maintain the program web site, and design and execute other recruiting activities as required. - Recruit an outstanding inaugural class by interacting closely with applicants and potential applicants, personally responding to calls and emails, and following up on inquiries. - Manage the application and acceptance process. - Manage the interface between students and University central administration so that registration, credit tracking, and other administrative details are as easy as possible, given the novel nature of this program which is neither business nor engineering, but both. - Coordinate instructional administration by working with instructors and the operations staff on both the engineering and business school campuses to secure rooms and equipment as needed, and scheduling classes and instructors. - Manage extra-instructional program activities such as guest speakers and social events, and otherwise manage community-building activities within the program. - Advise students on curriculum and monitor their progress. - Help to build the program's external visibility by preparing press releases and interacting with media outlets, alumni outreach, and other relevant activities. - Develop and sustain program policy documents. - Coordinate academic and administrative committees. - Coordinate program evaluation over launch and operation.
The Program Officer will be jointly supervised by the two Co-Directors of the Masters in Entrepreneurship Program each representing their respective School/College.
