Diversity provides a learning environment that is rich in perspectives. In today’s global economy, it is essential for students to be exposed to and gain appreciation for individual perspectives derived from varying cultural, gender, and socio-economic backgrounds. It is the goal of our diversity programs to increase the engineering workforce of the State of Michigan and the United States by increasing the number of successful, diverse engineering graduates, primarily from the University of Michigan, but also from other schools in the state.
Our programs are organized into three areas:
- Pipeline development of the engineering workforce in K-12 schools.
- Success of students here in the College of Engineering.
- Inclusion: active participation in university and college co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
At all times, we strive to create a climate within the college that fosters and values diversity and welcomes all students, faculty, and staff.
