CEDO Advisory Councils

Overview

CEDO Inclusion and Engagement Councils.

A key component of the CEDO mission is to ensure that all students have every opportunity to be included and actively engaged in all aspects of academic, professional development, and life learning activities offered at the university and in the College of Engineering. In order to insure that these opportunities are readily available and that the quality and value of these services and programs are systematically reviewed for suitability, The College of Engineering and CEDO are proud to announce the newly formed CEDO Inclusion and Engagement Councils. A reworking of the former Diversity and Outreach Council, this group of individuals is divided up into three subsets.

The External Advisory Council

The External Advisory Council consists of approximately 24 members from the engineering employer, K-12 school community, and government sectors. As advisory council members these individuals provide advice and guidance to our center as it presents itself to the college, the campus, the state and the nation.

Over the past six years, Dean Munson charged a Diversity & Outreach Committee with membership consisting of faculty, students and staff.  Feedback from last year indicated that we need to provide a different approach to effectively engage faculty and students in a more targeted way.  As a result we have created two new Faculty and Student groups to address this mission.

The Faculty Advisory Council (FAC)

This faculty-focused committee has the primary objective of engaging faculty on the following concepts:

  • What is the role of faculty in developing the pipeline of diverse students motivated and prepared to pursue engineering?
  • What is the climate of academic success for diverse constituencies within the College? How can faculty positively influence this climate?
  • How can faculty encourage cross-cultural engagement and learning and the development of global skill competencies?
  • How do we get more faculty engaged in the above issues?
The Student Engagement Committee (SEC)

This forum is designed to have direct dialogue with students to:

  • Create a more effective way to communicate our programs and services to students.
  • Obtain direct feedback on the climate of academic success for diverse constituencies within the College and discuss how we can positively influence this climate in the most effective manner.
  • Get input on strategies to encourage cross-cultural engagement and learning and the development of global skill competencies.
  • Get more students engaged in the above issues.

We are envisioning a faculty committee of 15-20 students, including representatives from key student societies, committees and constituency groups. The committee would meet once a month for an hour with an agenda established jointly by Center leadership and students.
