On November 2 - 4, 2008, the department celebrated our 50th anniversary --1958--2008! Included in our anniversary celebration, U.S. News and World Report ranked the graduate program #1 in the field of nuclear engineering. We were excited to have two significant reasons to celebrate! We had a plethora of alumni speakers and everything went well! Please see more information which is located in the lower sidebar menu.
We take pride in the NERS community being known as home to a number of teachers, students and researchers who are dedicated to the development of beneficial technologies based on the physics of fundamental particles and radiation.
In these pages you will learn about our academic degree programs, our research programs, our faculty, about the field and employment opportunities, and about admission procedures. Additionally, three of our NERS research programs have been publicized in the DOE newsletter University Currents Fall 2007, pages 20-22. As one of the oldest and consistently highly ranked programs in the world we are committed to providing our students the best possible education, broadly based in mathematics and science, to provide a superior foundation for a future in any field.
Academics
We provide several degree programs in Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences, including a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, a Master of Science, a Master of Engineering, a Professional Nuclear Engineers degree, and the Doctor of Philosophy. In addition, we administer the Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Engineering Physics degree.
Mission: To provide a superior education for engineers and scientists in nuclear engineering and radiological sciences and to develop future leaders in industry, government, and education.
Goals: The program provides students with the skills and tools necessary for industrial, medical, governmental and environmental applications of nuclear processes and radiation. In addition, we will provide insights and skills that will prepare them to be leaders in research and the practice of nuclear engineering and radiological sciences.
The Future: The future for nuclear power and related research is bright. Jobs are opening up world-wide. Read all about it!
