    • Areas of Research Interests

Probabilistic modeling and optimization of marine systems. Probabilistic modeling of the ocean acoustic detection process; marine systems reliability, maintenance and replacement. Bulk and liner shipping fleet deployment (1982-present); optimal deterministic, time dependent and stochastic vehicle weather routing in a weighted Euclidean space; structural reliability of marine diesel engine shafting systems (1982-present); artificial intelligence/expert systems applications in ship operations; development of expert and decision support systems for optimal container stowage (1985-1989); port and inland waterway project planning (1991-present); and marine transportation economics/management applications. Work in the above has resulted in more than 100 publications.
