NA&ME Reference Room Search

Composite Search
This search is a composite search, that will search (case-INSENSITIVE) for
substring matches in several fields of the database:
You can combine multiple fields and apply expressions to them to restrict
your search.
NOTE: Technically, the expressions you use in the fields are regular
expressions, so if you know regular expressions, you can use them in
the search fields above.
USAGE: Basically, you can string together values using the operator
and negation fields to produce a more sophisticated search to prune your
answers. To successively narrow your search, experiment with the form.
- If you are not interested in narrowing your search for a particular
field, simply leave it blank (and it implicitly will match everything).
- To find everything that is NOT matched, simply select IS_NOT
in the negation menu for the appropriate field. To match values, select
IS from the negation menu.
- Order of evaluation is top to bottom (ie, satisfies TITLE first,
then AUTHOR, then KEYWORD).
- To exclude fields from the search, simply unclick the appropriate
radio box under the Include field.
Simple Search
This search is a keyword search, that will search (case-INSENSITIVE) for
substring matches in several fields of the database:
- Title
- Author
- Journal Name
Additional search engines with greater flexibility will be implemented in
the future.
NOTE: Technically, this is a regular
expression search engine, so if you know regular
expressions, you can use them in the search phrase field above.
Soooo... to search for 'propeller', with an author name of 'Forward', you
might try something like:
propeller.*Forward
as your search term.
If you are looking for information on FINITE ELEMENT METHOD, you
can enter the phrase as it is, since the words are adjacent and are likely
to be in this order in the title. For example:
FINITE ELEMENT METHOD
If the words you are looking for are not likely to be adjacent, you can
enter the information in the following way:
RESEARCH.*EDUCATION|EDUCATION.*RESEARCH
This format applies to author names as well as titles.
Cataloguing information about each record is abbreviated. Contact the NAME
Reference Room for further information.
