The educational objectives of the Department of Naval Architecture
and Marine Engineering, University of Michigan, is to prepare engineers
for professional practice in the design and manufacture of vehicles
to operate in the marine environment. Primary emphasis is on the
scientific, engineering, and design aspects of ships, small boats,
and craft, and also submersibles, platforms, and other marine systems.
The program also emphasizes the ability to work effectively in teams
and culminates with a major team design experience.
The Department further seeks to prepare students for professional
practice in the marine industries, for further graduate study, and
for life-long learning.
