NA&ME Academic Program Introduction

The Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is recognized as one of the top departments in this field in the world. The undergraduate program is ranked number one in the United States, while overall undergraduate education at the University of Michigan is ranked third (Gourman Report, 10th Edition, 1997).

Undergraduate Program

The undergraduate curriculum leads to the B.S.E. degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. The educational objectives and educational outcome of the undergraduate program are described in Educational Objectives and Educational Outcome. The program consists of 128 credit hours. A short description of the required courses along with a sample schedule with the required courses are given in Program Requirements.

Graduate Program

The graduate program in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering leads to the M.Eng., M.S., M.S.E., Professional and/or Ph.D. degrees.

The M.S., M.S.E., Professional, and Ph.D. programs are administered through the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies.

The M.Eng. Program is administered through the College of Engineering, Center for Professional Development and leads to the Master's of Engineering degree in Concurrent Marine Design.
