Description

This 2-day course is designed to update the occupational health nurse on the assessment, intervention and evaluation of common health problems or injuries encountered in the work setting. Topics will include chest pain, respiratory ailments, head injuries, penetration/foreign body injuries, musculoskeletal strains and sprains and skin lacerations and thermal injuries. Discussion of HIPPA guidelines and appropriate documentation will be applied to case studies.

Following this program, the attendee will be able to assess patients with the conditions above when they present at the clinic. They will learn protocols and guidelines for managing these conditions, including: emergent actions required; measures for stabilizing patients when conditions are acute; and managing or screening patients with chronic conditions. They will also be able to prepare appropriate documentation for these injuries and illnesses occurring at the worksite. Case studies will be used to allow attendees to participate in applying what they learned.
