Degree Requirements: For students who wish to earn an M.S. degree, a total of 30 graduate level credit hours are required for the Master’s degree. Specific course requirements are ChE 527 (fluids), ChE 528 (reaction eng), ChE 538 (thermodynamics), ChE 542 (transport phenomena), and two non-ChE graduate-level courses. A maximum of six credit hours from a research project can be counted toward the Master’s degree. A maximum of six graduate level credit hours can be transferred from other schools provided they meet the Rackham Graduate School criteria and are approved by the ChE department.

Registration: Students register in the course electronically at wolverineaccess.umich.edu. A University of Michigan uniqname, ID#, and password are necessary to register. The registration deadline is always the day before classes begin. Michigan’s academic calendar is available at the Registar’s office website, http://www.umich.edu/~regoff/calendar/

Tuition/Residency: Tuition is currently charged at the rates for Full Term Tuition for Michigan Resident and Non-Michigan Resident under Rackham Graduate Engineering. Rates are available at the Registrar’s office website, http://www.umich.edu/~regoff/tuition/full.html

If you live and work in Michigan, we encourage you to apply for residency status. The guidelines can be found under Residency, at http://www.umich.edu/~regoff/resreg.html. Applications for residency status should be completed and sent to the Residency office as soon as you obtain your U-M ID#, and no later than the end of the first month of each term.

Application: To apply to the Master’s degree program in chemical engineering or apply as a non-candidate for degree, please complete the application at http://www.rackham.umich.edu/admissions/, pay the application fee, submit official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose (plans for the degree) and a personal statement. Send all documents to the department. If you are interested in a Master’s degree, indicate code 00115 on the application, if you do not want a degree, use 01277. Winter Term Deadline: November 1; Fall Term Deadline: July 1. (Note these deadlines are flexible.)
