Welcome to the web site of Kotov group!

Without any hesitation I can say that we are an excellent scientific team.  We strive for the most creative, forward looking, and unorthodox scientific and engineering discoveries.   Professor A. Einstein once said “Imagination is more important than knowledge”.   Although giving extra credit to imagination, we also strive for the most rigorous and diligent proof of hypotheses we make.    Imagination without strict logic, sweat, doubt, and long hours is wishful thinking.

Our core expertise in material designs from nanometer scale to micron scale.   This transcends all the projects that you will see on this web site and other that are just in the beginning of their development.   Ask yourself the question what functions you want to have, i.e. optical, mechanical, biological, etc., then define the structural characteristics that determine these functions, and, after that, create the materials.   Quite often Nature does not need any force to produce remarkable materials.   They self-organize following the laws which are potentially common for nanometer scale colloids and biology.   This is important part of many of our approaches.

Kotov group combines rare diversity of the projects starting from computer simulations of nanoparticle behavior to 3D organization on stem cells and drug discovery.   Such diversity is not accidental.   The most profound discoveries of today’s science are happening at the interfaces of different disciplines.   Over several years passed, we developed facilities and expertise within the group which allow us to exchange diverse schools of thoughts and ideas without leaving the group meeting room.   Students, post-docs, and visiting scientists in Kotov group have a chance to see and try a variety of techniques and be exposed to multiple scientific interfaces sparking creativity and new discoveries.

Glad that you stop by our web site,
