Sujit's Research Description

The need for small volume portable energy sources is gaining importance in the military as well as civilian sector. Some of the applications include radios, navigation aides, cellular phones, and automobiles. Micro fuel cells are a promising source of portable energy. Apart from being lightweight and portable, they offer high efficiency at low pollution levels.

My research is basically concerned with the development of a micro reaction system for fuel processing (syngas generation + water gas shift + CO oxidation) with the aim of providing rich H2 fuel. Currently, we are focusing on the fabrication of a microreactor system for reducing CO content to desirable levels (typically below 100 ppm). For this purpose silicon, glass, and aluminum micromachining are being explored.
