Cluster Computer

The Glotzer Group jointly owns 468 processors with collaborators at the University of Michigan. Computing resources are supported by the Center for Advanced Computing. In addition to supporting the Glotzer Group G5 cluster, the CAC also provides the group with access to approximately 650 AMD Opteron cpus, connected with Force-10 and Infiband networking.

Current Glotzer Group resources include:

  • Apple G5 Cluster (AON)
    • 220 dual processor Apple G5 nodes @ 2.0 ghz
      • 440 total processors
      • Dual raid systems
      • Gigabit/Fast Ethernet service network
      • 96 nodes connected via low-latency, Myrinet network
  • AMD Opteron Cluster (nyx-login)
    • Ownership of 14 dual processor AMD Opteron 240 nodes @ 1.4 ghz
      • 28 total processors
    • Shared with the Kieffer research group
    • (submit jobs via the Landau queue on NYX)
    • Suggested compiler flags for Portland Group Compilers (pgcc):
      "-O3 -fastsse -pc 64 -Mvect=sse -Mcache_align -Kieee -Mvect=prefetch -B"
    • Note the -B flag allows C++ comments in C source.
    • Coming Soon: 24 eight-core AMD Opteron 2356 nodes at 2.3 GHz/core and 8 NVidia Tesla S1070 GPUs.
      • 192 total processors
      • 32 total GPU processors
