Why Michigan? Why Aerospace?

We invite you to join the undergraduate program in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. Michigan offers a first rate undergraduate aerospace engineering program. We have the largest aerospace engineering alumni base in the USA and most probably in the world! Being part of the Michigan Aerospace Engineering family opens up all sorts of professional opportunities for our graduates. We are consistently ranked as one of the top Aerospace Engineering programs in the nation. Because the department is a part of a large research university, it offers a significant number of interdisciplinary research opportunities that undergraduates can get involved in. The unusual breadth and depth of the undergraduate program is an important feature of the Department's commitment to undergraduate education.

As a student, you will find that our department is a friendly place, with an enthusiastic group of students who call the Francois-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) building and its modern laboratories their 'home'. Students team together to work a broad array of aerospace and other engineering projects.

Famous sons of Michigan, such as Kelly Johnson, the Lockheed 'Skunk Works' designer of many innovative aircraft including the SR-71, are world renowned for their great contributions to engineering. Seven astronauts were educated in our department and several return each year to speak with students and faculty.

I hope that you will join us to share in the mission and goals of our Department.

Professor Harris McClamroch,

Undergraduate Committee Chairman
