Section 100: Monday/Wednesday 9:30AM-11:30AM 1013 DOW (Subject to change)

SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT - WASTE MATERIALS AS A RESOURCE
(Instructor - TBD)
This section of Engineering 100 will be offered for the first time Winter 2009. In it, students will be introduced to the concepts of sustainability using waste management and resource recovery as an example. Students will learn about technologies that allow water, energy (biofuels or electricity) and nutrients to be recovered from wastes, and will learn how geopolitical and socioeconomic factors influence implementation of these technologies. The class will involve a lab project where student teams will actually generate electricity or biogas from wastes.
