A new M.Eng. graduate research and training program jointly sponsored by the College of Engineering and the College of Pharmacy. Provides students fundamental knowledge in the science and engineering of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing processes, and reflects the most up-to-date advances in the pharmaceutical industry.

The UM PharmE program is the first graduate degree granting program in Pharmaceutical Engineering in North America. It emphasizes on interdisciplinary education and practical training in the research, development and manufacturing of health care products for the 21st century with strong support from a variety of pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology and related companies. We have both regular faculty members from Colleges of Engineering and Pharmacy at UM as well as adjunct faculty members from many industries and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) participating in the education and training of our students. There is an active student chapter of International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) at UM that provides many opportunities for our students to interact with their academic and industrial colleagues in a variety of social and professional activities.

Our graduates are well sought after by many companies because they believe in our innovative, cross-functional and practical curriculum and the quality of our students. In the near future, we intend to build on our excellent concentrations in Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing to add a new concentration track in Clinical Development and Engineering based on suggestions from our industrial and clinical colleagues.
