Professor Ralph Yang has been appointed the John B. Fenn Distinguished University Professor of Engineering, effective September 1, 2017.  The distinguished professorship “recognizes senior faculty with exceptional scholarly or creative achievements” and only seven were appointed this year.  Yang is also the Dwight F. Benton Professor of Chemical Engineering.

Yang has chosen to honor his mentor and PhD thesis advisor at Yale University, John Fenn, for this professorship.  John Fenn (1917-2010) was a 2002 Nobel laureate in chemistry for his development of electrospray ionization which enabled the analysis of large molecules by mass spectrometry.
