Making the case for nuclear in Washington
3/5/2013
Last week, Ronald Gilgenbach, chair and Chihiro Kikuchi Professor of Nuclear Engineering and Radiological Sciences, met with Representative John Dingell and the staff of Senator Carl Levin to make the case for nuclear energy and nuclear energy research. The visit was arranged through the joint efforts of Nuclear Engineering Department Heads Organization, the Nuclear Energy Institute and the American Nuclear Society. Gilgenbach, together with a contingent from these organizations, lobbied for the Department of Energy’s continued commitment to supporting nuclear energy research and investing in the education of graduate students.
"Congressional representatives were very supportive of an 'all-of-the-above' energy policy that includes nuclear, renewables and fossil fuels," said Gilgenbach.
