Aerospace professor Iain Boyd recently gave an invited talk at the First Gordon Conference on Atmospheric Re-entry Physics. Titled Status and Challenges for Coupled Modeling of Flow, Surface Chemistry, and Material Response, his talk described the progress made in his research group at Michigan in the modeling of ablating heat shields used to protect space vehicles re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.
