Data Management and Stewardship for Scientists and Engineers

Your life as a researcher revolves around getting things done: Grant applications, data capture and analysis,
collaborations with colleagues, writing for publication, annual reporting, etc. Though they are often overlooked, developing good data management and stewardship skills can reduce the amount of time and effort it takes to accomplish these tasks and help you generate high quality results with a minimum of stress.

This workshop series will introduce you to good practice in data management, sharing, and preservation across the lifecycle of your data.

Workshop #1 – (3/23) Starting out Strong with Data Management Planning
Covers data management planning. Data Management Plans are now required by many funding agencies and could impact your chances of getting funded. Moreover, planning out what you need from your data and how you will develop your data to meet these needs can save you time and aggravation over the course of your research. Workshop #2 – (3/28) Managing your Data Over the Course of Your Research
Focuses on the organization and management of your data during your research. We will cover steps you can take to organize your data so you can quickly find what you are looking for and how to describe your data in ways that others or your future self could easily make sense of it. Please register at http://ttc.iss.lsa.umich.edu/ttc/sessions/data-management-and-stewardship-for-scientists-and-engineers-3/

Workshop #3 – (4/6) Successful Data Sharing and Preservation
Addresses sharing your data in ways that will directly benefit yourself and your research community and preserving your data so that it will stand the test of time. Please register at http://ttc.iss.lsa.umich.edu/ttc/sessions/data-management-and-stewardship-for-scientists-and-engineers-4/
