The ChE 360 laboratory has been extensively revised throughout the past several years. Students input has played a significant role in determining the present status of the equipment and experimentation. We still welcome constructive suggestions for changes, either in the technical content or the format of the course. We are particularly interested in any suggestion of new projects or modifications of the current projects or assignments.
Most students will have the opportunity to work on two of these projects during one term. However, students are encouraged to learn more about the other projects by reading the course pack and consulting students working on those projects. Active participation of the students through questions and answers during the entire semester is essential for this concept of "active" learning.
The teams are given three lab periods in which to complete their assignments. A work plan is due after the first lab period detailing how you intend to carry out the rest of the experiment. After the second lab period an interim report is due showing the status of your work to date. And after the final lab period the final report is due. This report shows all work and conclusions. An oral presentation preceeds the writing of the workplan and final report for each of the last two assignments. An introductory calibration assignment is a two week project for which only a written report is submitted.
