Network Status

The purpose of this page is to inform CAEN users of current and recent network outages, and to announce planned upgrades and maintenance that may affect the CAEN network. To receive email notifications of planned CAEN service downtimes, join the CAEN Outages e-mail list in the U-M Online Directory.

Unplanned

  • CAEN Service Degradation: RESOLVED: Windows settings & services – November 02, 14:00

    On Monday, November 2 at around 2:00 p.m., ITS accidentally deleted a number GPOs (Group Policy Objects) that affect CAEN/Engineering Windows computers. More information on this error can be found on there web site at:

    CAEN lab users may experience unexpected behavior when logging into the Windows environment. For example, the N: network drive, which provides access to personal NAS storage space, may not be mounted properly. This may also cause problems accessing certain software applications, which store data to the N: drive.

    Update (11/3 at 14:30): A temporary fix has been put in place which should mount the N: network drive upon login.

    Update (11/3 at 23:59): ITS reports that all services have been restored.

    Estimated Time of Repair: November 04, 17:00



Planned & Announcements

  • CAEN Scheduled Maintenance: Windows server reboots – November 12, 06:30

    On Thursday, November 12 between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m., monthly maintenance will be performed on various CAEN Windows servers. The following servers will be rebooted in order to apply updates:

    • caen-sharepoint
    • caen-sql1
    • caen-tc01
    • changepw
    • license15
    • license16
    • vs3

    This may interrupt some services that CAEN provides. The interruptions will typically last less than 15 minutes, but could last longer. The services listed below may be affected:

    • Applications may fail to launch on CAEN-supported Windows lab and research computers.
    • The web page for changing ENGIN domain Windows passwords will be unavailable.
    • Access to CAEN NAS home directories via WebDAV and SFTP will not be available; access via drive N: on CAEN-supported Windows lab and research computers will still be available.
    • Team Center will not be available.
    • The CAEN SharePoint server will not be available.

    In the event that maintenance is not required on this day, this outage will be canceled with as much advance notice as is possible.
