Known Issues & Bugs
This page is intended to list all known issues, or bugs, with CAEN software or services that we feel you need to know. If you have any questions about the issues listed on this page, feel free to Contact CAEN and a CAEN staff member will respond to your concern as soon as possible.
Desktop Disappearance in Windows Vista
Some users have reported that after leaving their workstation for a period of time, upon return, the files on their desktop have “disappeared.” In all cases reported, right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Refresh has caused the desktop to return to normal. CAEN staff is working on the problem, which is suspected to be caused by the machine entering hibernate mode and briefly losing network connectivity.
Microsoft equation editor in Word 2007 incompatible with older Word docs
The way equations are handled on Microsoft Office Word 2007 has changed a bit, and the Equation function may not work with older versions of Word documents. For example, on the Insert tab in Word 2007, there is an Equation menu. Selecting Insert Equation from this menu brings up a robust equation editor. However, this feature only works on documents that use the native Word 2007 file format (.docx). If you open a document that has been saved as Word 2003 (.doc), the Equation menu on the Insert tab is greyed out.
One option for those with older docs is to use MathType for inserting equations into Word by selecting Object >> Object... >> Insert MathType 5.0 Equation; you can also run MathType directly from the Math & Numerical Methods folder in the Start menu.

Problem setting STK user directory to personal NAS space
CoE faculty and students have NAS home directories on the server storage.engin.umich.edu. This space is mapped as the N: network drive on CAEN Windows computers, and the My Documents and Desktop folders are redirected there for each user. At startup, STK attempts to create its own user directory in the My Documents folder. However, STK isn’t compatible with network paths that don’t utilize a drive letter. Users see a dialog like the following:
In order for STK to successfully load, the path must be changed to an entry that uses the drive letter – like this:
The path C:\temp\STK 8 could also be used, but this is temporary space on the PC's hard drive, so it will not be saved as it would on the NAS server.
