Seminars: Introduction to Simulink for Model-Based Design & Modeling Physical Systems
All faculty, staff, researchers and students are all welcome to attend.
Location: Duderstadt Center, Room DC Win3 (3336 BD)
Part 1: March 3, 2009, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Introduction to Simulink for Model-Based Design - Design methods have become widely adopted by industries that design and manufacture products with embedded controls. The amount of embedded content within these "mechatronic" systems will continue to increase for the foreseeable future as additional complexity is added to meet consumer demands and government regulations. In part 1 of this two part seminar series, an engineer from the MathWorks will discuss the basics of applying Model-Based Design methods within the Simulink environment using a demonstration model of an electronic throttle body. Come join us to learn more about how these tools are being used in industry applications.
Agenda:
- The Executable Specification - The model is the spec, the simulation results are the requirements
- Design with Simulation - Save time and money with Virtual Prototypes
- Automatic Code Generation - Push a button, get production code. It's really that easy!
- Rapid Prototyping - Get to real-time in no time
- Continuous Verification - Test, test, test (and test some more)
Part 2: March 5, 2009, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Modeling Physical Systems in Simulink - To properly test an embedded control algorithm, you will need a representation of the physical system (plant). When creating a physical system model, there is always a tradeoff between simulation speed and accuracy. In the second of this two part seminar, an application engineer from The MathWorks will discuss various methods for modeling multi-domain physical systems within Simulink. Come join us to learn about the latest advances in physical system modeling.
Agenda:
- Motivation for modeling physical systems - So I created a model, now what?
- The challenge of modeling multi-domain systems - Energy exchange through interactions
- Introduction to physical modeling tools in Simulink - Who stole the equations?
- Physical Modeling Best Practices - Applying Model Based-Design Methods
