Windows Settings & Services on CAEN Lab Computers Disrupted
On Monday, November 2 at around 2:00 p.m., U-M's central IT organization ITS (formerly ITCS) accidentally deleted a large number of critical settings within the campus-wide Microsoft Windows environment. Some of these settings were being used on CAEN lab computers running Windows during the login process.
As a result of the removal of these settings, CAEN lab users experienced unexpected behavior when logging into the Windows environment. In some cases the "N:" network drive, which provides access to personal home directory storage space, was not mounted properly. There may also have been problems accessing certain software applications which rely on the "N:" drive being available.
ITS staff worked into Monday night in an attempt to restore the missing settings, and service was restored as of 11:59 p.m. Tuesday night (11/3). If you are interested in further details about the service degradation from ITS, please see their web site, http://status.itcs.umich.edu/outage.php?id=43526. We regret any difficulties you experienced with this issue.
