Explorer.exe Error Fixed
In the recent past, many users have encountered an Explorer.exe error when logging into CAEN Windows 2000 workstations. The cause of the error has been tracked down and corrected. A fix was pushed out in December, just prior to finals. Users should now be able to log into a Windows 2000 workstation trouble-free.
The problem occurred when Application Compatibility Updates were installed prior to the installation of Windows 2000 SP2. The shim engine (Shim.dll) would periodically cause Explorer.exe to generate an access violation error message on login. Now, with a few changes to registry keys, this error should no longer occur.
