Exchange Service Upgrade
Exchange service upgraded
The Microsoft Exchange service for CoE faculty and staff was recently upgraded from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003. This upgrade provides faster server response, along with many new features that include enhanced Outlook Web Access, Outlook Mobile Access, and Exchange Server ActiveSync. Some of these features have not yet been totally enabled.
- The redesigned Outlook Web Access interface consumes less bandwidth and looks very similar to Outlook 2003. It also provides support for server-side rules, spam/content-filters, spell checking, signatures, and task lists.
- Outlook Mobile Access (OMA) provides a web interface, similar to Outlook Web Access, for mobile device browsers.
- Exchange Server ActiveSync allows wireless-networked Pocket PC devices to sync email messages, calendar, and contacts lists directly with the Exchange 2003 server. This service can also be utilized by Windows Mobile Phone users.
- Exchange 2003 unlocks several new features in Outlook 2003 including Kerberos Authentication, RPC over HTTP, and MAPI compression.
