CAEN

In an effort to assist CAEN users in filtering unsolicited email (spam) and prevent it from filling their inboxes, CAEN has deployed a server-side spam detection system called Brightmail. Brightmail differs from many other anti-spam programs in that it performs real-time analysis of spam and updates spam signatures every five to eight minutes. Brightmail tags spam when it arrives on a CAEN email server, allowing users the choice of taking advantage of Brightmail, or "opting in."

Brightmail works by scanning all incoming email messages before they reach anyone’s inbox, and tagging the message header as spam if it matches the anti-spam filters. These filters are extremely accurate, with a false positive identification of .0001%. Brightmail is available to all CAEN email users on the main email server, srvr5.engin.umich.edu, the Exchange email server, exchange.umich.edu, and the Alumni server, alumni.engin.umich.edu.
