Why is the color printer set to be the default destination for print jobs in CAEN labs?
In CAEN computer labs that contain color printers, the color printers (i.e. -maize queues) are the default queue to which all print jobs are submitted rather than the black & white-only printers (i.e. the -blue queues). This is because the color printers are newer and faster, providing better service to CAEN lab users.
However, it should be noted that lab users are not charged the rate for color pages on these printer unless the color option is specifically selected at the time the job is submitted. In addition, even when the color option is selected, users will only be charged the color rate for the pages that actually contain color text or images.
