Recent Changes to CAEN Email
Routing changes to inbound CAEN email
Beginning April 2, 2008, email sent to '@engin.umich.edu' addresses has been routed directly to ITCS email servers for delivery, instead of first being accepted by CAEN email servers. This change means that additional anti-spam measures are applied to messages sent to '@engin.umich.edu' email addresses, and has led to an appreciable drop in the amount of spam CAEN account holders receive. It also removed a campus email gateway that is no longer necessary, and which could have been used to route spam into the U-M network. Previously, email messages sent to addresses ending with '@engin.umich.edu' had been accepted by email servers operated by CAEN, then forwarded to campus level email servers (@umich.edu) operated by ITCS for delivery.
There was no other effect on the delivery of '@engin.umich.edu' email.
The additional anti-spam measures applied to messages sent to '@engin.umich.edu' email addresses are governed by the recipient's "Use Do Not Spam List" setting in the U-M Online Directory (UMOD). For more information on the Do Not Spam List, please see ITCS Document S4323. Please note that ITCS Document S4323 refers only to '@umich.edu' addresses, but the Do Not Spam List will also apply to '@engin.umich.edu' addresses.
The above change also applies to email sent to all remaining '@alumni.engin.umich.edu' addresses.
In addition, effective April 9, 2008, CAEN has stopped accepting email for legacy email destinations that previously saw very little use, listed below.

This is one of several steps CAEN has taken toward ending support of email services. This has allowed CAEN to apply its efforts more directly toward areas and projects specific to the College of Engineering.
